NISG Election Information

Each spring, NISG holds elections for Senate and Presidential/Vice Presidential positions, as part of its checks and balances with other NISG branches and the UNI Student Body.

Candidates for the 2026-27 School Year:

President and Vice President:

The 2026 NISG Elections will be held on March 10th and 11th on MyUniverse.

How to Vote in NISG Elections

Voting will take place on March 10th and 11th through a link that each student will receive. Click the link and cast your vote.

How to Run for NISG Office
  • Campaigning and petitioning begins in February.

     

  • A candidate seeking the office of President or Vice President must obtain all of the signature amounts for the colleges listed below.

    • College of Business Administration -25 signatures
    • College of Education -25 signatures
    • Colleges of Humanities, Arts and Sciences -25 signatures
    • College of Social and Behavioral Sciences -25 signatures
    • Graduate College OR Undecided/Interdisciplinary/General Studies -10 signatures
    • Additional UNI Students -40 signatures

     

    Those seeking to obtain a Senator position must gather the listed amount of signatures to their respective college. For example, a candidate for the College of Education only needs 18 signatures from the College of Education to be on the ballot. 

  • College of Business Administration -18 signatures

  • Colleges of Humanities, Arts and Sciences -18 signatures
  • College of Social and Behavioral Sciences -18 signatures
  • Graduate College -10 signatures
  • Undecided/Interdisciplinary/General Studies -10 signatures

     

    • Signatures received before or after these times will not be eligible and put you at risk for an infraction. Also, note that the Election Commission has the right to "verify" your signatures by calling any of the numbers listed.
  • Submit your completed petition packet to the NISG Election Commissioner (nisg-chiefjustice@uni.edu) by 6:00 pm on March 6th. Packets submitted after this date will not be considered. At this point, your name will officially be on the voting ballot.
  • If you are running for President or Vice President, you need to turn in your completed financial reports by March 6th at 6:00 pm. If you are running for Senate, you need to turn in your completed financial reports by March 6th at 6:00 pm. Failure to turn in a report will disqualify you from the election. Even if you have spent $0 on your campaign, you must turn in a report.
When is the NISG Presidential Debate?

The NISG Debate will take place on March 4th at 6:00 pm. It will be held in the Maucker Union Ballrooms.

Election Results

Election results will be announced on March 11th at approximately 7 pm in Maucker Union Grand Staircase, depending on the Election Commissioners' ability to verify the votes and financial reports in a timely manner. Whether dependent, there will be an online medium sent out to the student body from The Chief Justice's email account.

Transitional meetings will occur toward the end of the semester (applicable personnel will receive detailed information at a later date).
